The Vypin lighthouse or Cochin lighthouse is situated at Puthuvype in Vypin island. Even though the current lighthouse started functioning only by 15 November 1979, the Cochin lighthouse has a long history. The lighthouse which was functioning in Fort Kochi from 1839 was shifted to Puthuvype in 1979. The tower has a height of 43 meters and is made of double layered concrete. The light beam has the range of 28 nautical miles. The view from the top of the light house is marvelous, it provides a panoramic glimpse of the city beneath. Built-in 1384, Calvetti Juma Masjid is one of the oldest mosques in Kochi and its history is closely knit with the history of Kochi itself. Arab traders in Kochi found an open space to pray at Calvetti. They settled here and gradually, with local support, they built a Masjid here as well. The word "Calvetti" is derived from the Arab word khalvath, which means open space. The mosque has typical Kerala-style architecture. The Dutch Palace (Mattancherry palace) was originally built by the Portugese. The Synagogue at Mattancherry built in 1568 AD is the oldest Synagogue in the Common Wealth Countries. It was partially destroyed in the war of 1662, but was rebuilt by Dutch. In the mid 18th century the clock tower was added. The Great Scrolls of the Old Testament, copper plates on which the grants of privilege made by the Cochin rulers were recorded, gold and silver crowns gifted by various patrons to the synagogue. The synagouge is decorated with Chinese hand-painted willow patterned tiles and Belgian chandeliers.

A stroll along the beach, particularly at sunset with the chinese fishing nets and sailing ships in the background, is a fine experience. Many European style bungalows can be seen along the shoreline.
