How many visits does a root canal require?

Typically, a root canal procedure requires one or two visits. Depending on the severity of your root canal and the type of tooth involved, the dental procedure will usually take between 30 and 90 minutes in each visit. If your tooth needs a dental crown, that’ll require more time, which may take up to 60 minutes. Often, this step will require another appointment, allowing time to guarantee your tooth has healed before the crown is permanently placed.

Note: Some endodontists prefer to perform the entire root canal in one visit, while we prefer to do it in two appointments to let the tooth dry and be able to disinfect a second time before filling.
